A Magical Drink to Sleep Well and Fight Depression

Contrary to popular belief, we need magnesium rather than calcium because it is a trace element necessary for the proper functioning of the body. We need to consume 480 milligrams daily and 400 milligrams per day for pregnant women. In the 19th century, when the diet was more balanced and not denatured due to the refining of certain foods, magnesium deficiency did not exist. The consumption of 1 pound of whole leavened bread provided the necessary daily intake of magnesium, today the bread we consume is practically devoid of it.

The Benefits of Magnesium

Absolutely necessary for a healthy and balanced diet, magnesium is an indispensable factor for the good functioning of our organism and our metabolism because it contributes to the cellular reproduction and the production of energy. Magnesium, which ensures calcium binding, also acts on the transmission of nerve impulses, which is why magnesium deficiency is found in disorders of the nervous system such as depression and anxiety. Suicide rates were found to be higher in areas with poor magnesium soils.

To respond effectively to physiological needs, magnesium must be present in all tissues and organs of the body, including muscles, nerves, heart and bones. Today, 77% of women and 72% of men have magnesium deficiency, yet they can be found in many everyday foods such as cocoa, oleaginous fruits (almonds, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, Pistachios, walnuts), boiled artichokes and spinach, shrimps, etc.
